Our partner, a rapidly growing international technology company, is looking for a Head of Data Center Design to lead the design and development of next-generation AI and hyperscale data center infrastructure across Europe.
The company operates one of the world’s largest GPU-powered infrastructures, serving over 8 million users through 29 data centers across Europe and the Americas.
Together with leading partners, it is investing in the development of a 300MW+ AI data center, one of Europe’s largest independent AI compute infrastructure projects.
About the role
The Head of Data Center Design owns the overall technical design and architecture of the company’s data centers, from initial site feasibility through approved engineering drawings.
This role defines the technical vision — modular POD architecture, cooling strategy, power topology, and reliability targets — and ensures that every design decision, from OEM equipment selection to construction execution, stays aligned with that vision and meets company requirements.
- Owns overall technical design and architecture of the data centers
- Defines and maintains the Basis of Design: modular POD architecture, cooling strategy, power topology, fire suppression, networking
- Sets design standards for IT deployment (rack layout, containerization, CDU placement)
- Leads design reviews and approves engineering drawings (electrical, mechanical, structural, fire, networking)
- Owns PUE, capacity, and reliability targets at the design stage
- Coordinates with OEM/ODM partners on equipment specs and integration requirements
- Works with implementation teams to ensure construction execution matches approved design intent
- Evaluates and approves design changes for technical impact (cooling, power, capacity, redundancy)
- Leads site selection technical criteria and feasibility studies (power availability, grid connection, cooling options)
- Ensures designs meet certification requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data center design or critical infrastructure engineering, with 3+ years in a design leadership role
- Demonstrated ownership of Basis of Design documentation for large-scale data center facilities
- Deep technical fluency across MEP disciplines: power topology, cooling strategy (including DLC), fire suppression, and structural loading
- Experience with modular/POD-based deployment architectures and high-density GPU/HPC compute environments
- Track record of leading multidisciplinary design reviews and approving engineering drawings across trades
- Experience evaluating site feasibility (power availability, grid connection, cooling source options)
- Direct experience achieving Tier III/IV certification (Uptime Institute) on delivered projects
- English proficiency sufficient for international technical documentation and stakeholder communication

- Experience with NVIDIA GB200/GB300 NVL72 or equivalent high-density GPU cluster infrastructure
- Uptime Institute or EPI certification
- Experience working directly with OEM/ODM hardware partners on equipment integration
- Background spanning both design and construction execution phases
- Experience with EU regulatory frameworks for power, environmental, and building compliance
